Hey everyone, welcome to my blog! My name is Joanne and I am this year’s Miss Teenage Mississauga 2020. This journey hasn’t even started and it feels so unreal already. I am so grateful for all of these opportunities and each person who has supported me on the way.

A little about me: I am currently in grade 10 in the AP program at school. My parents and friends are very supportive of everything I do. My mom was actually the one who encouraged me to do this pageant. Both my parents are immigrants from China, and they’ve taught to me to be grateful and humble. I try to help out strangers as much as possible, because I believe that everyone deserves a chance to tell their story, before we decide what their story is.

I would like to say that I’m an artistic person. I dance, I like painting, and music in general. I do enjoy baking and cooking but I am not good at it at all. I really love travelling. I’ve been to Peru, Ecuador, Paris, Italy, China and so much more. In the future, I want to travel globally, as the culture and food and scenery are drastically different and unique at the same time.

I used to be a child model at a young age of 8 and was with Carolyn’s Kids One of my biggest accomplishments as a child model was being in a Plan Canada – Because I Am A Girl commercial. However, I was taller than most of the other kids so I did not get casted to too many auditions or shoots. Summer of 2018, I picked up modelling again and went to many open calls. I got accepted into Bnmmodels, and they have been family to me ever since. One of my big dreams, is to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week.

As every little girl’s dream, I would like to model for the future, but that is highly unrealistic. So, my other option is an osteopath. An osteopath is similar to a chiropractor or physiotherapist. Instead of looking at the part of the body that is in pain which is what physiotherapists and chiropractors usually do, osteopaths treat the body as a whole and tries to help improve the its function by correcting overall structure. I have scoliosis and kyphosis, and I think it is half genetic and half because I am very tall (5’11) I used to go to a osteopath in Oakville. She was the absolute best, and the stories she told me of her helping people, that’s when I knew I wanted to become an osteopath.

My platform is all about how social media affects teens, and mainly girls. I believe social media has a positive and a negative influence on teens. We are so addicted to the internet, and we don’t realize that influencers and celebrities post the highlights of their lives. We want that so much, and we start comparing our lives to theirs. I think it is important to have a reality check, and that is why I chose that platform.

This is just the beginning, and I’m so excited to participate in the pageant with the other delegates!!

Much love,

Joanne
