My platform, my passion… Special Olympics!

After researching many platforms, I found that the Special Olympics organization was important and really stood out to me. I am a very athletic person and enjoy playing all kinds of sports. Throughout many years of training and competitions I’ve learned many new skills, become more fit physically and mentally, and have gotten the opportunity to meet so many new people. Playing multiple sports has definitely shaped me into the confident, strong, and determined person I am today. Ever since I was young I’ve always loved working with children, throughout elementary school I would volunteer to help the kindergarten teachers every recess. In addition, my mother owns a daycare, and every day I would be in there either playing, reading, or completing fun activities with the children. Something I’ve always believed in was that everyone should be treated fairly and equally regardless of their differences, abilities, or cultures.

I chose Special Olympics as my platform because they offer one of the world’s greatest platforms for acceptance and inclusion for all people–regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or cultural differences. Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.

They provide year-round sports and athletic competitions for individuals. Special Olympics competitions are held every day, all around the world, adding up to more than 100,000 events a year! Most importantly Special Olympics promotes opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and develop skills and friendship with families.

My goal is to increase awareness for the organization, Special Olympics. I want to strive to build self-confidence and to provide a venue where athletes can learn new skills, develop physical fitness and make long-lasting friendships. I want to encourage others to build communities of acceptance and inclusion for all people, embracing all differences and all abilities.

Always remember,

If you stay positive in a negative situation.

You win!
